PROF. DR. KAY AXHAUSEN
Institute for Transport Planning and Systems (D-BAUG)
Founding Member and Member (2011 - 2016)
Kay Axhausen’s research includes the measurement, modeling and micro-simulation of daily travel behavior, the evaluation of travel time and its components, long-term mobility choices and the response of the land-use system to these choices, all supported by analyses of human activity spaces.

PROF. DR. HANS RUDOLF HEINIMANN
Land Use Engineering (D-USYS)
Founding Member - Member of the Steering Committee (2011 - ) and its 1st Chairman (2011 - 2013)
Hans Rudolf Heinimann’s research interest is the design and continuous improvement of land use systems, including natural hazard disruptions. His recent work emphasizes spatially explicit optimization of land use activities, socio-technical interactions within complex infrastructure systems, and system optimization for resilience.

PROF. DR. DIRK HELBING
Computational Social Science (D-GESS)
Founding Member - Former Member of the Steering Committee (2011 - 2012) and Member (2011 - 2016)
Dirk Helbing investigates complex socio-economic systems, using methods from statistical physics, agent-based modeling, behavioral experiments, and Big Data analytics. His current research studies cascade spreading in complex systems from traffic to finance.

PROF. DR. HANS JÜRGEN HERRMANN
Computational Physics (D-BAUG)
Founding Member - Former Member of the Steering Committee (2011 - 2014) and Member (2011 - 2017)
Hans Jürgen Herrmann’s research areas include community structures, the spreading of epidemics or rumors, and the coupling of functional networks such as communication and infrastructure. There, he investigates the dynamics of mutual damage and vulnerability to malicious attacks and random failure.

Martin Larsson

PROF. DR. MARTIN LARSSON
Mathematics (D-MATH)
Member (2016 - 2019
)
Martin Larsson's research lies in probability theory and its applications in finance. He is interested in multi-factor arbitrage free models for high-dimensional objects such as the term structure of interest rates as well as forward and futures curves in energy finance. A key focus is analytical and computational tractability, which is crucial for risk analysis. He is Associate Professor at Mellon College of Science, Pittsburgh, PA, USA.

Director of the former Laboratory of Safety Analysis (D-MAVT)
Executive Director of the Risk Center (6/2011 – 10/2014)

Wolfgang Kröger’s research involved the analysis and optimization of large-scale engineered systems regarding reliability, risk and vulnerability and efforts to put technological risks into a broader context.

Enlarged view: PROF. DR. FRANK SCHWEITZER

PROF. DR. FRANK SCHWEITZER
Systems Design
Founding Member (2011 - 2021)
Frank Schweitzer focuses in part on the emergence of systemic risk resulting from the collective interaction of economic or social agents. His work applies formal concepts to economic and financial networks, as well as to business companies, social organizations, and online communities in cyberspace.

PROF. DR. DIDIER SORNETTE
Entrepreneurial Risks
Founding Member
Didier Sornette researches on the prediction of crises and extreme events in complex systems. Applications include the ex-ante diagnosis of financial bubbles and crashes, earthquake physics and geophysics, the failure of engineered structures, successes in social networks, etc.

PROF. DR. ULRICH ALOIS WEIDMANN
VP for Infrastructure
Member since 2015
Ulrich Alois Weidmann works on the mobility demand that is efficient, safe and environmentally friendly. Especially public transportation systems are expected to play a vital role in this. Consequently, its design and operation are challenging tasks. Since 2016, Ulrich Weidmann is the ETH's Schulleitung's Vice-President for Infrastructure.
